Welcome to the Christian Mental Health blog. Managing depression, anxiety, bipolar, thought disorders and other mental health issues can be lonely, complicated and discouraging. We believe you will find emotional and spiritual healing through the love of Christ in these pages.
Whether you struggle personally with mental health issues or care for a family member who does, we are here to arm you with Biblical principles, educational materials and resources to help you better cope with the many challenges you face. And when we are empowered by the gospel in doing so, we become a part of the healing ministry of Christ.
The reality is: mental health issues are complex. Many times the individuals with the issues and those involved in their treatment and support have different ideas about what has caused the illness and that complicates things even further. Questions abound, and some of those questions are presented here:
~Isn’t this therapy stuff just to dig up the past and find someone to blame?
~If my family member has a mental illness, will I get it?
~What have I done wrong as a parent that my child is this way?
~Is mental illness really a biochemical disorder?
~Doesn’t medication just get a person hooked on the drug and create another problem?
~Isn’t this a spiritual problem that can be resolved by prayer and being in the Word?
~Isn’t all this stuff just made up so the person can get more attention?
~Why can’t the person just pull themselves up by the boot-straps?
~Why do the parents always get the blame?
~How can I help someone who doesn’t want help?
~Isn’t threatening suicide just an attempt to get attention?
~My friend says she had a nervous breakdown. What does that mean?
These are all legitimate questions and we will be addressing each one and more in further posts. If you have other questions about the underlying causes of mental health issues, please send them to us and we will do our best to address them in future.
